"The Lux Blog’s own alumna visual artist, curator, and DJ, Gemynii saw the need and fulfilled it with The Conjure; an event, currently housed at The Pinhook, specifically for and full of queer femmes and cis-women looking to party without the stress of being harassed."- Written By: Indiana Giordani (Conjuring Queer Spirits) www.theluxblognc.com/blog
Dear Imaginary Lover,
I'm always coming across people who are quick to say there isn't anything happening in Durham or don't go to durham because it's dangerous. Now I am not native to this area or North Carolina for that matter. I feel though that these same people neglect the history that has and is still being made before our eyes. A collective of cultures now rooted in it's very foundations. This current stream of growth that we find ourselves in. Myself and another member of The Lux Blog team Ms. Indiana Giordani received the opportunity to provide coverage for The Conjure (A celebration of Black & Brown femme magic) "
If you're familiar with The Pinhook then you know an all-inclusive environment which supports and encourages it goers to freely be who they are. I'm always grateful for safe spaces. Places where one could find refuge from the harsh criticisms of society. On this this night, as I traverse the room and amongst the sway of the crowd I couldn't help but notice how people here danced and smiled and laugh and talked with one another. The peace that they found in gathering here. The freedom they must've received from that gathering.
It was beautiful (and I wished you were there) to take part in that atmosphere. I imagined you on the dance floor. Communing with your tribe. Redefining your rhythm. Running your hand beneath the glow of the projector beaming on to the stage. Twirling. Sashaying. Pulling me in to your groove. We. . .well I digress, before I get lost again, I'll add that I'm grateful for the creatives, for the artist and activist, the lovers/fighters, for the pillars in this community that I've come to call friends and family over the years.
Well Love, I have to go but I'll keep you posted on what's going on in my world. If I have to leave you then I want to leave you with this I pray that you are well. That you are finding new ways to love yourself. I beseech thee, to learn who you are and accept yourself in that knowledge.
P.s. I love you
